God Is Choosing You

I am an Old Testament girl.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to live under the law!  I’m all about God’s amazing grace, but oh, how I love that older book.  I can get lost in the stories (and drama) in the lives of those men and women.

I identify with Moses, and his fear of public speaking.   He claimed he stuttered and was slow of speech.  His self-talk almost got the best of him.  Really, God, you want me to do that?  I just can’t.  Ask somebody else, like my brother over there.

And Gideon?  I think he’s my favorite.  “Oh, mighty warrior,” —  that’s what God called him.  But Gideon was hiding out in fear at the time.  He didn’t see himself as a mighty warrior — Gideon saw himself as the least of his family, and his family the least of the clan.  He was scared and insecure.  But still, God called out to him, “Oh mighty warrior.”  I’ll bet Gideon looked back and all around to see who God was talking to.  Me?  Not me, God.  You should send somebody else.  I can’t do it.

Isn’t that so like us?

There have been many times when I’ve been asked to serve or do something, and my first response is, “Oh, I can’t do that.  Look over there; see her?  She’s gifted and talented.  Ask her.”

How many blessings have I missed because I was too insecure and frightened?

When Abraham was called to  give the biggest sacrifice of his life, his own son,  he just started up that mountain — and didn’t turn back.  And once he reached the top, and finished the journey, he came face to face with Jehovah-Jireh, the God who provides.   If he had turned back when he was only halfway, he would never have known God in that way.

He met Jehovah-Jireh at the top of the mountain.

I want to be an Abraham — or even a Gideon as it didn’t take him too long to believe God.  And that’s the secret, isn’t it?  Believing God.  Understanding that God sees our weakness as an opportunity to partner with us to complete a work for His glory.

The Almighty God chooses to partner with us.  How amazing is that?

He is strong when we are not.  He is bold when we are meek.  We don’t have to do it alone.  He wants to do it with us.  I love that.  I want that.  Don’t you?

The next time you are asked to do something that matters for eternity, look in the mirror, and see past the insecurity and fear.  See who God already knows you to be.

Oh, mighty warrior, He is choosing you!
